The Oscar winner opens up about sharing the screen with a daughter in I Am Ruth on BBC One Week with Laura Kuenssberg this week
Kate Winslet just might be daughter Mia Threapleton's biggest fan!
The Academy Award winner, 47, spoke to BBC One's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg this week, where she opened up about working with the 22-year-old daughter on their new drama, I Am Ruth.
"Actually, I'm totally blown away by it," Winslet shared of her daughter, according to The Daily Mail. "I mean, he doesn't need my help at all."
He continued: "Sometimes I get to know him on technical tricks here and there. It's just the little things I've learned over the years, like changing the eye lines... Little things like that, that don't teach you anyone . And he appreciates those things."
But when it comes to acting, Winslet admits that her daughter would say, "I'm fine," and try it herself. "And there were times I would say, 'Can I just have one...' 'No, no, no, I'm fine,'" she added.
In the project, Winslet plays Ruth, a caring mother who tries to help daughter Freya through social media pressures and mental health issues.
I Am Ruth is part of the drama anthology I Am for Channel 4, created by filmmaker Dominic Savage, and developed and co-written by Winslet and Savage.
"... We have the added bonus of knowing how to push each other's buttons, which I can tell you we can do quite well and definitely lend those resources significantly as we make the film," Winslet said of filming with Threapleton.
Appearing on ITV's Lorraine earlier this week, Winslet admitted that her daughter, whom she shares with ex Jim Threapleton, would even instruct her to "shut up".
"As far as performance, he doesn't need me at all," he said. "There were even moments where he looked and said, 'Shut up Mom, let me do it!'"
The first trailer for the film arrived in mid-November, and marked the first project Winslet and Threapleton have worked on together since Threapleton quietly started acting without anyone noticing.
"I thought I knew [it] was coming, I always had my suspicions," Winslet said previously of Threapleton following in her footsteps. "And then a few years ago he turned around and said, 'I want to try it.' "
Going by a different last name, Winslet said her daughter's relationship with her was unknown when she landed her first role in 2020's Shadows.
"What's great for her is that she has a different last name, so she's blending in under the radar and the people who voted for her don't know she's my daughter and that's important for her self-esteem, of course," Winslet said. This article was written by EDUKASI CAMPUS.
